What types of AC power cables are there?

We know that the power cord, also known as the plug power cord, is a wire of a certain length with a plug or both ends of the power cord having plugs. It is a common accessory for small appliances, communication, and various mechanical devices. Whether it is equipment or instruments, as long as it needs to be powered, it cannot do without a power cord. So what is an AC power cord? An AC power cord is a wire that carries high-voltage alternating current. This type of wire requires a unified standard to obtain safety certification before it can be officially produced. It is used in AC power lines, and its types can be divided into the following two parts:
1. UL type
The main types of power cords include: SVT, SJT, ST, SPT-1, SPT-2, SPT-3, and XTW wires; where S stands for Service, indicating power supply wire; V stands for Vacuum cleaner; J stands for Junior; T stands for Thermoplastic, including PVC data, etc.; W stands for Weather resistance and Water resistance.
Thermoplastic refers to thermoplastic materials, mainly including PVC, PP, nylon, PE, etc. Among them, PVC is a non-crystalline molecular structure, which is easy to process, has a wide range of applications, and various properties can be achieved by adding modifiers. Therefore, it is widely used in the industry, but it is a halogenated material and emits suffocating odors when burned. The rated operating voltage of UL type wires is 300V, while that of ST type is 600V.
The conductors of UL power cords are mainly represented by AWG—American wire gauge. Generally, for household and similar uses, the main range is between 22~12 AWG, which indicates the current carrying capacity of the wire. It is also represented by MIL, based on cross-sectional area and conductor resistance.
2. IEC type
Main wire types: 227 IEC, 52227 IEC, 53, HO3VVH2-F, HO5VVH2-F, HO3VV-F, HO5VV-F, HO7RN-F; where 227 refers to the publication number of IEC—standards for PVC wires, and 52, 53 refer to their specific numbers.
Currently, AC power cords are widely used in industries such as mice, keyboards, video devices, scanners, cameras, televisions, video capture boxes, speakers, mobile phones, audio equipment, digital cameras, MP3s, MP4s, and game consoles.
